The Rabbit Story

Our Story

Since the new millennium, we have had 5 pet rabbits. Fluffy and Ginger Nut (2005-2012), Woody, (2011-2017) and Daisy and Blossom (2017-now). Our wider family history with rabbits goes back further than that, but for food instead of love.

Fluffy, Ginger Nut and Woody were both lion heads, a breed of rabbits with a large mane of fluff, (or in Woody's case, fluff everywhere). They used to live in hutches, and would hop around in their outside pen in the summer, and maybe in the inside during the winter.

Woody during his last few days
In the last year of his life, Woody was relocated to indoors, to spend time with us. Over time, he grew very frail and sadly died in his owners arms, at the vets during the run up to Easter, 2017.

It was only a matter of time before we brought two Freshly Baked Buns, (Daisy and Blossom), into our lives.

The Rabbits' Story

Very little is known about Daisy and Blossom's birth, but we think they were born about November, 2016. They were probably, (though we do not know for sure), sold by a well known pet chain. They lived with their new family. Happy ever after?

Unfortunately not. During February, 2017 their first owners, (we do not know who), left them. The owners were evicted and didn't take the rabbits with them. About a day later, (long enough for them to run out of food and water, but not to the point they died), they were found and saved.

Daisy and Blossom's first day here
Daisy and Lily, (Blossom's old name) were looked after by the GBH rescue, where they were vaccinated, spayed and kept until we rehomed them. They have stayed with us since, through hard times, (emergency vet appointments), and lots of good moments as well, (new toys!).

Soon Daisy and Blossom became completely free range, and enjoy unlimited hay. They enjoy getting a lot of attention, and became very tame.

However, mid-March 2018 saw Blossom become very ill. Sadly she didn't recover and died on the 16th. Daisy, her companion bun, is still very well and very much alive.
